Doshas - Three Vital Energies |
The three doshas are responsible for all the physiological and psychological processes in your body and mind. They are dynamic forces that determine growth and decay. Each of your physical characteristics, mental capacities, and emotional tendencies can be described in terms of the three doshas. The Sanskrit names for the three doshas are vata, pitta, and kapha. These do not translate easily from Sanskrit. Your aim should be gradually to learn to recognize the effects of the doshas in your body and your daily life. The doshas, like the elements, cannot be detected with our senses, but their qualities can. ... Vata pitta, and kapha have specific functions in the body but they do not work in isolation. Full health and wellbeing is only possible when the doshas work harmoniously together. It is important to realize that the three doshas in your being change constantly, due to the doshic qualities of your lifestyle and environment, such as time and season. When you can recognize the qualities of the doshas in your body and the doshic qualities in your daily life, you will be able to use Ayurveda to maintain them in a healthy balance for you. By learning to distinguish any imbalances, you can use Ayurveda to restore equilibrium to your doshas and so regain full health.
